Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton, a fifth-year senior whose college career has been plagued by injuries, will be sidelined for the four to six weeks with a sprained knee, head coach Matt Wells said Tuesday.

Keeton played in three games last year before a knee injury ended his season. Two years ago, Keeton suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament against BYU on Oct. 4, 2013.

Keeton has been a starter since his freshman season, and the injury that limited his participation last year enabled him to be granted a medical redshirt season in 2015.

Keeton was named the Mountain West Conference preseason offensive player of the year last season and was a preseason all-conference selection this year.

But now he is sidelined again after suffering a sprained MCL in his right knee during Saturday’s loss to Washington.

“Chuckie will be out probably four to six weeks,” Wells said. “He’s got a sprained MCL, but we’ll move forward. I hate it and I hate it for him.”

In the first three games this season, Keeton completed 54.5 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and five interceptions for the Aggies (1-2).

Kent Myers, who played in seven games last season as a freshman after backing up both Keeton and Darrell Garretson, will be the starting quarterback in Keeton’s absence.
